PROJECT OVERVIEW

In late August of 2020 Hurricane Laura made landfall along the Gulf Coast. Two hotels on the Louisiana coast experienced significant damage to their roofing systems. Target Solutions was called in to mitigate the situation at each location.
The first hotel lost a tower standing 2 stories above the roofline and had large sections of its Decra Stone-Coated Steel roof system blown off. Target removed broken framing and structural components, then framed up the roof line and decked over it. The team installed Ice and Water Shield to protect the building and keep the roof dry until it could be replaced. The car port where the tower fell was also demoed as it was an extreme safety hazard.
The second hotel had a 13 ton AC unit that was blown off the curb and rolled across the roof, causing widespread damage to the SPF roof sytem. Five small split AC units were also blown off mounts, causing related damage. Target brought in a crane to remove the damaged units from the five story building. The team also installed a temporary 45mil TPO roof that was mechanically fastened to the deck. Target boarded up 25 windows that had been broken in the storm and patched over 100 holes in the EIFS siding created by flying debris.

Gulf Coast Grocery Store

GULF COAST GROCERY STORE

PROJECT OVERVIEW

In early August of 2017, a tropical depression moved across Mexico and developed into Hurricane Harvey. A large grocery store chain contacted Target requesting that we deploy equipment and personnel to begin shuttering stores in and around the Corpus Christi area. The Target team mobilized and sent out two 18 wheelers full of drying equipment, and 100 personnel over the next two days. The team worked along a huge span of the Texas coast from the store’s Kingsville location all the way up to Beaumont to shutter over 85 stores prior to Harvey’s landfall. Target continued to shutter stores after landfall as the storm made its way along the coast.

Once the storm events had concluded, Target was asked to assist two stores that had experienced major flooding damage in the Houston area. Both stores were holding over 5 feet of water and littered with large quantities of rotting food products. Target was tasked with removing and disposing of all of the product and mitigating the flooding to address the current situation and prevent additional water damage. The team provided water removal, dehumidification, cleaning, and sanitization services. Mold issues were mild, but some mold removal was also required. The stores were serviced for approximately 5 weeks before work was complete. Additional stores that did not experience flooding required other services, including restoration from wind damage and minor water intrusion. In all, approximately 20-25 stores were serviced with mitigation efforts. All 85 stores that were shuttered were serviced by Target for the shutter removal process. Auxiliary items such as cart corrals, awnings, and other items that were taken down prior to the storm were replaced as they were initially found.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

A severe mid-day hail storm in Marlin, Texas wreaked havoc on a community hospital. The storm brought 3 inch hail that blew out windows, causing water intrusion. The roof sustained extensive damage to approximately 700 squares, resulting in leaks into the hospital rooms. Target Solutions mobilized and had dozens of employees on site within the hour. 

Once on site, lifts were used to board up the windows. Extraction crews dried water damage from roof leaks and water intrusion around broken windows. Temporary repairs were made to the roof system. Affected floors were cleaned and sanitized in compliance with hospital safety standards. The immediate damage remediation was complete by sundown, just hours after the storm hit. Target collaborated with the insurance adjuster to define the scope of work quickly and expedite the commencement of work well ahead of a normal timetable. This limited the interruption of normal operations at the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic.  

After immediate needs were addressed, repairs began. The team coordinated with hospital personnel to ensure ongoing operation of the hospital during the repair process. The Target roofing and restoration teams worked in tandem to address roofing issues and minimize further water intrusion during the roof removal process. Equipment was left on site to utilize if any new needs were discovered during the duration of the job. The entire roof system was replaced with a Sika-Sarnafil membrane. Internally, many ceiling tiles were replaced. Broken windows were replaced and interior repairs were made to address water damage from roof leaks and water exposure and debris from broken windows. Structure drying and dehumidification were performed using Hepa filters for decontamination of COVID and airborne contaminants like dust, which was crucial in the fragile hospital setting. Wet insulation as the result of the roof leak was removed and interior areas were dried.

Columbus Avenue Baptist Church

Columbus Avenue BAptist Church

PROJECT OVERVIEW

A spring hailstorm in the Waco area affected many downtown roofing systems. After discovering damage on several adjacent buildings, Target notified the administrative staff. Upon inspection, it was discovered that a local baptist church suffered a loss constituting the replacement of the entire roof assembly at the church and neighboring daycare facility. 

The Target Solutions team met with the insurance adjuster assigned to the claim, as well as building consultants, engineers, HVAC experts, and Electricians to determine the full extent of the damage.  Many of the church roofs were multiple-layered overlays, the result of decades of deferred maintenance and neglect.  Target successfully interfaced with the insurer to achieve an appropriate valuation to the roof system and began work. After removing the old assemblies, Target installed new code-compliant insulation, recovery board, and a 60mil Sika/Sarnafil PVC membrane roof system. Target also replaced the shingle roofs and oversaw the removal and upgrade of outdated HVAC systems and electrical components. Finally, Target managed the detaching and resetting of the new VRF HVAC system the church recently installed. The project was projected to take over 4 months, but Target completed the entire scope of work 30 days ahead of schedule.
